Assistant L

ibrarian- Librarian III  (November 2011- Present)

Yale Center for British Art, Reference Library and Archives – Yale University, New Haven, CT

  • Founded, developed and continually maintain the first Preservation Program for the Library’s collection to provide care and maintenance through in-house repairs, custom enclosures and professional conservation services.

  • Train under YCBA Head Paper Conservator Soyeon Choi weekly since July 2015 in conservation treatments, techniques, documentation, decision making and ethics in accordance with guidelines from the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC). .

  • Perform simple to complex item-level conservation treatment on books, documents, and prints from the Reference Library’s collection of unique and non-rare materials.

  • Perform simple and complex conservation treatment on works of art on paper from the Prints and Drawings departmental collection under the supervision of Head Paper Conservator.

  • Create written and photographic documentation for all treatments completed for Reference Library and Prints and Drawings collections.

  • Performed collection condition assessments, set treatment priorities for targeted areas of collection, and conducted item-level surveys for targeted areas.

  • Treatments performed include recase; reback; full disband and rebind; spine cleaning; paper mending; adhesive removal; spot attachment; hinge removal; humidification and flattening; surface cleaning;  local bleaching; light bleaching; in-fills; adhesive preparation (methylcellulose, wheat starch paste, Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose, Klucel-G); solvent gel preparation (agarose, carbopol); board reattachment; aqueous treatment; rehousing; custom enclosures.

  • Curated exhibition “Moving Earth: ‘Capability’ Brown, Humphry Repton and the Creation of the English Landscape” from YCBA Collections for Sterling Memorial Library Memorabilia Room. March 7 – June 3, 2016.

  • Created online exhibition to accompany physical exhibition ‘Moving Earth: “Capability Brown, Humphry Repton and the Creation of the English Landscape’ using Omeka. http://exhibits.library.yale.edu/exhibits/show/movingearth

  • Provide research and instruction services to Center staff, docents, volunteers, Yale University faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, Visiting Scholars, and the general public.

  • Provide targeted and focused collection development for specific areas of the Library’s collection.

  • Provide bibliographic instruction, orientations and outreach activities to wide range of users, including docents, new Center staff, Visiting Scholars, Yale undergraduates, graduates, faculty and staff, and the general public.

  • Manage and maintain the Publication Exchange Program.

  • Manage the Field Librarian Program in conjunction with History of Art courses taught at the Center.

  • Provide reference services for the Institutional Archives to architects, curators, staff, students, and the general public, as needed.

  • Supervise, hire, train, and oversee all student workers, and provide supervision and training to interns and Kress fellows. Selected training for student assistants in basic repairs, such as tip-ins, hinge tightening, and paper repair.

  • Supervise and oversee day-to-day operations of the Reference Library and Archives and the Institutional Archives in the absence of the Chief Librarian and/or Senior Archivist.

  • Serve on wide array of committees at the Center, Yale University Libraries, and worldwide to enable collaboration, growth, and advancement.

 

Librarian, Archivist and Researcher (Contract) (March 2011- September 2011)

The Reynolds Homestead of Virginia Tech- Commonwealth Campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Critz, VA

  • Create  working Archives by processing all existing archival materials that include late 19th c. newspapers, 18th century sheet music, photographs, family correspondence, audio and video tapes, and historical documents and records, including Rehousing for all archival materials.

  • Create finding aids for all archival materials.

  • Design, organize and enhance onsite library for print materials using Collectorz Book Collector Pro Software

  • Manage and create metadata for special collection print materials and establish loan procedures.

  • Process, catalog and classify existing collection materials by creating a unique and individualized classification system specifically for the staff and users of the Reynolds Homestead collection. 

  • Conduct historical research on Reynolds Homestead plantation and Reynolds family to write overall interpretive story and historical narrative.

  • Create specialized historical narratives that provide daily life perspectives for slave families, women and children, as well a historical report on Virginia plantation kitchen uses, tools, typical meals, ingredients, and cooking methods.

  • Grant Writing for prospective grant-funded projects and budgeting experience for current and future projects.

 

Graduate Assistantship (September 2009-  May 2010)

Sloane Art Library- The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC

  • Provided reference and circulation services for patrons.

  • Conducted library instruction sessions for undergraduates on use of art library print collection as well as online resources and databases.

  • Created course web pages for art history courses, and constructed research guides for Classical Sculpture, Ancient Mesoamerican Art, Professional Resources for Artists, South Asian Art.

  • Managed library and supervised student workers on evenings and weekends.

  • Processed new acquisitions, as well as ILL requests using ILLiad,

  • Photographed and prepared artists’ book images for ARTstor with Adobe Photoshop.

 

Digital Postcard Collection Internship (Spring 2009)

Archives and Special Collections, Belk Library- Elon University, Elon, NC

  • Created a database and described a historical postcard collection, and generated standards and guidelines documents for future users.

  • Digitized selected postcards, optimizing color, size and overall image using Adobe Photoshop.

  • Completed historical research for each postcard to provide background information related to the subject, building, scene and/or location.

  • Recorded all metadata based on Dublin Core standards for each postcard using NC ECHO online database.

Digital Photographic Archivist Internship (Fall 2009)

Photographic Archives, Carolina Alumni Review, UNC General Alumni Association- The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC

  • Created digital records, in addition to all metadata and subject headings, for images from magazine and photographic archives in a FileMaker Pro 9 database.

  • Digitized older print photographs from archives.

  • Developed FileMaker Pro 9 database to organize, scan, label, tag, cross-reference and maintain print and digital items.

 

Graduate Assistantship (September 2008- August 2009)

  • Independently managed Scholarship Resource Library daily.

  • Answered email inquiries for range of financial aid questions from undergraduate, graduate and professional students and families.
